Technology is at its peak today Internet and computers have made it almost impossible for both corporate and civil citizens to thrive without their usage. Having such resources at disposable might become handy for people trying to make some extra money. All you would require is a computer and a wi-fi connection.

Speaking from a personal experience, during global covid-19 lockdown, I was at the verge of losing my job. With a family of 3 to support, and a petty savings account, I was afraid that I might not be able to make the ends meet for my family needs. I remember speaking to a nerdy friend of mine who has been an internet freak since the dawn of humanity- just kidding. The guy is really good at computers and to be honest, has taught me a lot as well. He suggested to utilize the time we all were forced to be at homes during the lockdown more efficiently by doing research on a peaky trend in those days- Online jobs; an opportunity to complete a few tasks and after submission, receive some money for it.

I though why not try it out; might as well earn something instead of just wasting my time thinking around bad things that might happen for which there were absolutely no surety. He also provided me a list of a few popular online offering job portals such bayt.com, fiverr.com, mostergulf.com, linkedin.com, upwork.com and so on….

I took the chance and registered my profile on almost all of these platforms. Within the first 4 months, I almost came up at the conclusion that it was indeed; a waste of time as everyone said. Since I had been at home since the start of lockdown. Thinking about my family, I was almost a bit afraid and nervous while trying out new things so gutted-up to the feeling that was making me feel miserable and an idiot to think that I might make an extra living by working through online jobs.

I remember getting my response to an ad on fiverr.com, that posted a requirement to complete creating a financial dashboard in excel for a small establishment. The pay was around 10 dollars per hour and the total requirement was for 4 hours. I applied for it anyways and after the acceptance of my profile, I started working during night time as the client was in a different time zone. It also became a source of extra fun for me as during daytime, I would work on my regular job for a few hours allowed / imposed during the lockdown and since the lockdown was during night, I used to work when my kids would have slept so as to balance my personal and professional life.

I completed the requirement in 4 hours, working daily for only 1 hour in the late night and submitted the project with a simple email to the client, “Good Luck”. Exactly after 6 days, as fiverr.com’s policy had suggested, I received my 40 dollars in my account. To be honest, I was a bit surprised, because I had always heard that freelancer online jobs were not legit and were scam to get your personal banking information. But nonetheless, even though, before providing my information on fiverr.com and registering as a freelancer, I had done my research on the net about the website’s security protocol and ranking, general reviews of freelancers and client’s remarks. Once satisfied, only then I had proceeded.

I thought if it were that easy and secure, why not take another chance and apply for another posted jobs. I did so and finally got the gig to a 20 dollars per hour job. The requirement was for 12 hours. I then worked on it in the same manner as I had done on the earlier one and submitted the requirement on time with a simple Good Luck email which I thought would be catchy to use my email signature.

Believe it or not, I have now become a part-time freelancer and keep working in these posted jobs and earn some extra money. Although the extra money doesn’t help that much as one might want or one might assume, but at least, something is better nothing they say. I can manage a few month end errands and my transportation (fuel) charges with the extra income I make by the end of the month by doing this freelancer online work. I earn almost around 1,200 to 1,800 dollars every month and have been doing so for the past 4 years.
